The Loft is the UTS Staff Social Club venue.
It is an area that is contemporary and airy.
It features a café, serving light refreshments
and espresso coffee, a bar, an upstairs lounge
area with handicapped access, and outdoor seating.
The Loft offers a place for staff to retreat
to during the day, or a quiet venue option to
take visitors for a drink or meal.
The Loft has had a long standing history with
the Social Club, with its original venue having
a few chairs and a fridge in which staff could
come for drinks and functions in a casual manner.
A fire gutted the “very robust” building in
1995, leaving it empty but structurally sound.
The original building dates back to 1898 and
was used as a storage facility for a bank which
fronted Broadway.
On the 21st of February 2000 the Loft reopened
after a $750,000 refurbishment of the terrace
venue. Funded and managed by the UTS Union and
UTS Staff Social Club, the new Loft is available
for hire by external groups when not in use
as a Staff Club.
